Music at Knowsley
Music is learnt and enjoyed in all classes, in whole school singing assemblies and a musical, Christmas production by each year group in December.
The Music Service
At Knowsley we also have visiting teachers from the excellent Oldham Music Centre. They teach instruments in groups of about four children. Instruments are loaned from the music centre.
Mr Wilson teaches all brass instruments on a Friday.
Mrs Meaden teaches the flute and clarinet on a Tuesday.
Ms Clarke teaches the violin on a Thursday.
Lessons cost £80 a term/ £240 per year including use of an instrument. Demonstrations will be given in school in the summer term. A commitment for a full academic year must be given for timetabling purposes. Please contact the office if your child would like to go on the waiting list for next year or if groups are full.
Year 5 will have Mr Bergin teach the ukulele to every class for a term each. There is no charge for this. School own a class set of ukuleles.
Singing Club is open to any children who enjoy singing on a first come, first served basis. They practise on a Tuesday after school with Mrs Barrass and Mrs Jones. This is a free after-school club.
The orchestra meets for a 30 minute rehersal every Friday in the hall from 8:25 run by Mr Wilson and Mrs Barrass. The children may come in through the main entrance and sign in
Please encourage your child to practise their instrument at home – a little and often is the best way to progress. Also, please help them remember to label it and bring it plus their music and practise notebook on the correct day.
The children will have a chance to perform in assemblies and at a big evening concert in the spring. We also are also invited to perform at other venues such as the Oldham School’s Music Festival at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham in June.
Any questions, please contact Mrs Barrass (Y5 and music coordinator) at school.
