Junior Leadership Team
The Junior Leadership Team (JLT) continues to make a positive difference across the school community through a range of projects, fundraising events and leadership opportunities. The children have shown great enthusiasm, responsibility and teamwork while helping to improve school life for everyone.
One of the highlights of the year was the Macmillan Coffee Afternoon, which welcomed families from Years 3 to 6 into school. JLT members acted as friendly meet-and-greet ambassadors, helping visitors feel welcome and supporting the Knowsley Community Group throughout the event. The afternoon was a wonderful success and helped raise money for an important cause.
The team also led fundraising efforts during Remembrance events, raising over £200 through the sale of poppies and related items. Their respectful attitude and commitment helped the school community come together to remember and reflect.
Supporting the school’s chosen charity, Little Lady & Little Lad Locks, has been another important focus for the JLT this year. The popular A–Z Shop encouraged pupils to purchase a range of items for 50p and £1, raising valuable funds for the charity. In addition, the team organised a collection of clothes and toys to donate to the charity shop, helping support children affected by alopecia and hair loss.
JLT members have also played an active role in improving school life. During the Headteacher recruitment process, Year 5 and 6 representatives took part in interviews and discussions, helping to ensure the successful candidate understood the needs and views of the pupils. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to demonstrate maturity, confidence and leadership.
Following feedback collected through the school suggestion box, the JLT worked closely with Miss Aldred to discuss improvements to lunchtimes. As a result, the dining room was reorganised into year-group sittings for Years 3/4 and Years 5/6. This change has had a very positive impact on the lunchtime atmosphere, creating a calmer and more enjoyable experience for pupils.
The JLT also listened carefully to requests from children regarding playtimes. New play equipment has now been ordered and is ready to be introduced, helping to provide more engaging and enjoyable opportunities during breaktimes.
In addition to school-based projects, Knowsley’s JLT continues to host termly DLP Super Council meetings. These collaborative sessions bring together Year 6 representatives from other schools to discuss important topics such as British Values and Mental Health, giving pupils the opportunity to share ideas, learn from others and develop their leadership skills further.
Elections - June 2026
Week beginning 15th June 2026 in classes, children will have the opportunity to present their speeches. This will include children’s strengths as a leader and how they can improve day-to-day life at school. Classes will then vote for the most suited pupil. If children are in Year 5, votes will count towards a possible chance of becoming President and Vice President of our wonderful school.
